UK Implantology Year Course - Course Format

Training & Education

The Cambridge Academy of Dental Implantology's Year Course has already trained over 500 dentists from all over the UK. This course allows any general dental practitioner, from complete beginner upwards, to obtain Certified comprehensive theoretical and practical training to comply fully with the GDC requirements.

The GDC require any dentist who wishes to practice Dental Implantology to undertake 'structured postgraduate training and assessment of competence'. The GDC state that the FGDP(UK) Training Standards in Implant Dentistry syllabus and standards must be used.

This course follows all GDC requirements and teaches the full GDC approved syllabus. On completion of the program the Certificate of Competency in Dental Impalntology (Foundation Level) is awarded. This certificate demonstrates that the dentist has complied with all the GDC's requirements for the independent practice of dental implantology in straightforward cases.

Holding the Certificate of Competency in Dental Implantology (Foundation Level) will allow you to safely and confidently provide straightforward implant treatment on your own patients in your own practice. You will be able to treatment plan potential implant patients and identify those cases which could prove to be more complex.

To be awarded the GDC compliant Certificate of Competency in Dental Implantology (Foundation Level) you will need to:-

1. Attend all 10 Study Days*

2. Pass the end of course MCQ Theory Assessment

3. Successfully complete 3 clinical cases under supervision (these can be completed up to 5 years from the end of the course)

* If one of the Study Days cannot be attended (illness etc) delegates can attend the same study day the following year at no charge.

The UK Implantology Year Course consists of 10 Study Days (5 Theory and 5 SurgicaL Skills Study Days), backed up by a 24/7 online educational program with online lectures, study modules and case training videos, serving as an Online Living Textbook.

The 5 Theory Study Days take place at Churchill College, University of Cambridge.

The 5 Surgical Skills Study Days take place at Cavendish House Dental Care in Cambridge.

The Study Days take place approximately one day per month and provide a comprehensive training package by way of lectures, seminars, hands-on practical training, surgery demonstrations and one-to-one surgical teaching. All training complies with GDC requirements for implant dentisty.

Every Surgical Skills Study Day features a group treatment planning seminar, as we feel that repetitive practice is the most effective way to develop the fundamental skill of safe treatment planning for implant cases.

This course is the starting point of your career pathway in implant dentistry and is designed to provide a solid foundation for career long skills development.

The course commences in May each year and runs until March/April. There is no Study Day in August, owing to the high number of participants and patients who take holidays during this month.
